Are you someone who loves a ‘spot the difference’ challenge? Perhaps you are meticulous about the way food is organised in your fridge. Or maybe your clothes are sorted by season, on matching hangers. We’re not saying these are essential prerequisites, but we are looking for a highly organised and detail-oriented Design Support Engineer to join our team and this kind of focus on the small stuff is what we need. At the same time, we are looking for someone who is motivated to learn and develop their interest in design.
If you think this could be you, why not grab the remnants of your selection box or a lingering mince pie and sit down with a cuppa to read on…..?
2024 was, in a word, hectic. As a company, CTSG experienced significant growth and we achieved a massive amount. Given the strength of our sales pipeline and the projects we are already committed to, it’s time for our dynamic design duo to become a trio. Just as a Head Chef and Pastry Chef rely on a Sous-chef, we now need that extra pair of hands to perform some of the more routine – but nevertheless, critical – elements of our work within the Design & Technical team, to create more capacity and support the next phase of our growth.
Reporting to the Head of Technical & Design, Ross (a self-confessed geek-cum-rugby coach who takes his tea strong with two sweeteners, FYI), the main focus of this role is to support Ross and his second-in-command, Rob, with administrative tasks, CAD edits, and maintenance of project documentation.
Let us expand on that, a little. Should you be successful, your days will typically be spent:
- Making design modifications and revisions using AutoCAD
- Performing routine CAD edits and updates to ensure designs meet project specifications
- Supporting the creation and maintenance of project documentation, including drawings, specifications and reports, ensuring every step of our process is well-documented and carefully catalogued
- Providing administrative assistance to the engineering team, including data entry & electronic filing
- Liaising with colleagues to keep abreast of project schedules, ensuring information is gathered and communicated effectively to support accurate and timely project delivery
- Assisting with the preparation of design presentations and project proposals
The recipe for success
We aren’t the kind of employer to demand a university degree and, truth be told, we don’t really mind too much what you’ve done in the past. It’s you as a person we are interested in, and what you are looking for in your next role.
As an absolute minimum, you will have a keen interest in CAD and be able to demonstrate a strong desire to learn more. Better still, if you have previous experience of utilising Auto-CAD and can share some examples of what you’ve produced in the past. If you like the thought of building a career with us, we’ll do everything we can to support your progression – this role offers an ideal development pathway for any aspiring designers.
We want someone with a curious and creative mind, who understands and appreciates the importance of work ‘behind the scenes’ and can demonstrate a team-first mindset. Someone who is comfortable performing routine tasks, yet who is committed to continuous improvement and eager contribute towards optimising efficiency. Excellent communication skills are a must, too (both verbal and written), coupled with a positive and proactive manner. You will also need to demonstrate a high degree of computer literacy and be especially comfortable using Microsoft applications.
Above all else, anyone joining our team needs to embrace our values and contribute positively to a company that is riding a steep change curve.
So, what’s in it for you? Why should you join the CTSG team?
Your starting salary will be c£25-35k p.a. – the precise figure we settle on will depend upon your personal skills and experience when you join us.
We believe in rewarding members of our team according to their overall contribution; so if your attitude is amazing and we can depend upon you to deliver, we’ll happily commit to regular pay reviews. We will also have wider conversations with you about your priorities in life, and how we can support you in achieving any goals you may have – we don’t expect your world to start and stop at work.
On top of that, you can expect to join a progressive business that appreciates the importance of balance – we won’t hide the fact that the team you’ll be joining is heavily deadline-driven and the pressure to perform is felt by us all at times, so we recognise the importance of having some fun, too. Hopefully you’ll be eager to join us for CTSG socials and help us celebrate our continued successes! We do also understand that life can be challenging outside of work, and we really value the wellbeing of everyone in the business so as part of our benefits package we will offer you membership to Westfield Health.
This is an office-based role located in Northampton, but there may be some scope for occasional remote working; if flexible working is something you’re ideally after, please be open with us about that and we’ll do what we can to support you.
There’s plenty more on offer, too, including a bonus day off on us to celebrate your Birthday. We can tell you more when we meet you…but you will first need to apply!
