Led by a team of highly experienced, energetic and entrepreneurial engineers, we are proud of the fantastic reputation we have gained, and the rapid expansion plan we have committed to. To support the next phase in our growth, we are recruiting for an Assistant Field Engineer to join our Renewables Division, which specialises in security solutions for utility-scale solar farms.
NGL….there will be days that you’ll work more hours than is ideal, you’ll be cold, wet and covered in mud. You might even occasionally be tempted by the thought of a cushy desk job, but if you are the candidate we are looking for then you’ll already know that’s not for you….
Instead, you’ll approach each day with a positive attitude, keen to assist your colleagues with whatever needs to be done. As a team, you will be responsible for the practical installation of security solutions across our portfolio of solar farm clients, as well as occasional preventative maintenance of existing solutions. On a day-to-day basis you’ll typically be checking and maintaining plant and equipment, trenching, cable laying and executing groundworks. Some of your time will be spent holding equipment and waiting for instruction so if you’re the impatient type, this probably isn’t for you. Ditto, if you’re not a fan of the glorious UK countryside and you’re only happy working outdoors when the sun is shining! But if you’re practically minded, a patient learner, and someone who is keen to understand why we do what we do the way we do it, then this could be the beginning of an amazing learning curve. We’re looking for someone who can follow instructions and think for themselves; someone who is solutions-orientated, but without the ego that tempts them to go maverick. You will be supervised and supported by a Project Engineer and will report to the Construction Manager but once competent, we will expect you to be accountable for your own work.
We offer full on-the-job training and once you’ve mastered the basics, you can expect to become certified in a range of disciplines, including the operation of mini excavators and skid steer loaders & attachments. If you happen to like the thought of being promoted to Project Engineer then we’ll do everything we can to facilitate your progression. We’ll create a structured, personalised development path just for you and we will encourage you to think as a future leader of our business from Day 1. If you’re not the ambitious type, that’s more than ok too….we aren’t the kind of business that is only interested in attracting a certain type of person. We don’t care what you look like or what your hobbies are (but incase you’re interested, our current team includes self-confessed geeks, petrol heads, golfers and more…all united by a love of pizza!) – but what is important to us, is your readiness to embrace our values and commit to personal growth and development.
As open-minded as we are, there are a few non-negotiables. It’s critical that you have a solid knowledge of basic hand tools and you’ll need to be a competent driver with a full UK driving license as you will be driving 4×4 utility vehicles and towing 3.5 tonne trailers loaded with plant and machinery to/from job sites. Working away from home regularly (often for several weeks at a time, Monday-Friday) is something that you need to be more than ok with, too; this is essential as our projects are located throughout the UK – but we think it’s a pretty good deal as you’ll receive travel pay, expenses, and overtime as appropriate….trust us, we’ll look after you.
What else will you get in return? Naturally, we’ll be offering a competitive starting salary (£26-30k basic). If you deliver, you’ll never be underpaid. We believe in rewarding members of our team according to their overall contribution; so if your attitude is spot-on and we can rely on you to help us realise the potential we know exists within our business, you’ll never need to ask us for a payrise and we’ll have regular conversations with you about what else in life you are looking for, and what we can do to help you achieve this.
You’ll also be provided with all the tools you need to get the job done including a mobile phone and any appropriate tech devices.
On top of that, you can expect to join a forward-thinking team that knows the importance of balance – we’re here to work hard and have fun, so you can look forward to CTSG socials and celebrations of success. We also understand that life can be a tricky juggling act and we value the wellbeing of everyone in the business; so we’re happy to talk to you about flexible working and anything else that is important in your world.
If you like the thought of working with us, please do get in touch – we’d love to receive your CV and a quick cover letter telling us why. Our email address is: recruitment@ctsg.tech.
