If this sounds appealing, please read on! We are looking for a Field Engineer to join us, working within our specialist renewable energy team. Our office is located in Northampton, but you’ll be field-based (often literally) working throughout the UK, installing end to end security solutions at utility grade solar power plants. You will be responsible for the practical implementation and supervision of the works and on a day-to-day basis this will typically involve the installation of buried services such as armoured cables, ducting and fibre optic cables. You’ll also be required to erect equipment mounting poles, terminate armoured cables and mount security products. To do all of this, you will need to be trained in the use of mini excavators, skid steer loaders and multiple machine attachments.
You’ll also perform electrical wiring and splicing, and you’ll work with Cat 6/ Cat 7 cabling. Other elements of the role include installing and commissioning camera systems, optical/infra-red cameras, and access control pads and, alongside technical colleagues, you’ll be walk-testing and commissioning.
You’ll need to be practically minded, able to understand electrical diagrams, groundworks and civils drawings. You won’t be afraid of long days and you’ll be used to working outdoors in the worst of the British weather – ideally with previous experience of working on construction sites, or similar. We’re also looking for someone with a strong desire to be a key player within a committed, can-do and collaborative team. As open-minded as we are, there are a few non-negotiables. It’s critical that you have a solid knowledge of basic hand tools and you’ll need to be a competent driver aged 21 years+ with a full UK license as you will be driving 4×4 utility vehicles and towing 3.5 tonne trailers loaded with plant and machinery to/from job sites. It’s crucial that you have a valid CSCS or ECS card and additional heavy machinery licences would be a real advantage, too.
Your flexibility to travel and stay away from home is essential, as our projects are located throughout the UK – but trust us, we’ll look after you. We think it’s a pretty good deal as you’ll receive travel pay, expenses, and overtime as appropriate.
